Not at all. Some of my most successful wrestlers are not what you would consider a typical athlete. Hard work, dedication, and discipline are the most important aspects to gaining wrestling knowledge and becoming successful in the sport.
Our goal is to create character and confidence in each athlete as they work hard and are able to see the results of their hard work. My focus on the long term development of our program is to create an environment where athletes can learn wrestling abilities in a challenging but safe and caring environment.
Respecting one another is number one. In our wrestling room, we are here to help one another achieve our goals.
While wrestling is an individual sport in some ways, it does include many aspects and benefits of a team sport. Team wins in tournaments are determined by the number of individual wins made by your teammates. The more wrestlers that win their individual matches, the higher the wrestling team will place in that tournament. Wrestlers very much become a family and develop an appreciation and respect for their teammates as a bond and a strong sense of belonging is built through practicing and working hard together.
Wrestling shoes are ideal for practices as they provide protection for the athletes ankles and feet. For tournaments they will be required. Shorts or leggings and a t-shirt work well for practices.
Yes parents are more than welcome. We ask that you do not coach from the sidelines and to just allow the coaches to coach. This allows you to just be your kids support. If athlete's siblings will be attending we ask that they are quiet and respectful of the classes. Only athletes and coaches will be allowed on the mats.
Absolutely not. Wrestling is the fastest growing sport for girls and women in the country. NCAA Division 1 just passed women's wrestling as a sanctioned sport which will open up thousands of new scholarships and opportunities for women who have a desire to wrestle.
Yes. Folkstyle season runs from November to February and freestyle/Greco-Roman season runs during the spring and summer. Classes will reflect what style is in season and what wrestlers are wanting to work on,
Yes. Competition is completely a personal choice and when the athlete feels like they are ready to compete that door will be open for them. The more practice the wrestler gets, the more prepared they will be for competition.
The earlier the better. The younger they are the focus is on movement, repetition, and athleticism.
There is risk taken in any sport and that is why being a good listener and being respectful is very important in our facility. Injuries are not likely to occur when participants are obedient and respectful.
Yes, we are a no obligation gym in which you can cancel before the beginning of the next month. Since we charge at the end of the month for the next month, WE DO NOT refund partial months, and your child can make up classes missed for being sick, but we do not refund for classes not made up.
